How to know if it is love or infatuation
Sometimes it can be difficult to know if what you are feeling is true love or just infatuation. The signs of love and infatuation are quite similar, particularly early in a relationship so knowing which one it is can be a difficult question to answer. As time goes on and you get to know this man more it does become easier to tell the difference but the problem is that by this stage it is often too late.
You may feel a strong attraction to this man from the very first moment that you meet. As you progress throughout that first date that attraction may become stronger and you agree to go on a second date. As your attraction for one another grows you want to spend as much time as you can together.
At this point you start to act a bit crazy and you don’t want to eat and have trouble sleeping. You are not interested in anything else in your life except being with him. This is what is generally known as ‘lovesickness’. Your whole life revolves around him from the minute you wake up to the minute you go to bed; he is always on your mind. You wait for his calls and his texts and you probably call him quite a few times during the day. You can’t wait for the moment that you see him next.
Even though you are becoming more and more comfortable with him, you still get butterflies in your stomach whenever you see him. You still get nervous before a date and check your looks over and over again. You think that he is Mr Perfect and he cannot do anything wrong in your eyes. Even his traits that seem to irritate other people are just cute to you. You love his laugh, you love his antics, and you love everything about him. You can’t keep your hands off each other and you want to spend every waking minute together.
During this ‘honeymoon’ period of a relationship, your feelings could mean that you are in love with him, but these feelings could also be infatuation. It is really difficult at this time to know which one it is. You will probably think it is love even if it is not. This stage can last up to two months and after which point you might start to notice his irritating traits. At this point you do not have that irresistible need to spend every waking minute together and in fact you can happily go a day or two without seeing each other at all. This does not mean that it isn’t love between you; it is just part of the relationship process when you move past that initial honeymoon stage and start to settle down.
This is when you can really distinguish between love and infatuation. If you still want to be with him even now that you notice his irritating habits then you may just be in love. If you find that you just cannot stand his irritating traits and really find him quite disgusting, then you have been infatuated with him and are now over that infatuation. True love is when you are still in love and still want to be with him once you get to know him really well and know all his habits and traits and you are still madly in love with him.
